Spacepoop

Forward OsFlosis is a system integrated into the Modified Advanced Crew Escape Suit (MACES) that focuses on the storage and treatment of urine for both men and women. The system utilizes existing research from NASA on Forward Osmosis Bags (FOB) to store and convert urine into a consumable concentrated sugar solution. The design of the system is expressed on the outside of the suit, which provides easy access to the FOBs while overlaying a biologically-inspired network of veins that connect the system. Forward Osmosis Bags (FOBs) are located in areas of high motion in order to maximize mechanical mixing of solution. Capillary Channel Flow (CCF) fibers carry urine to the bag and carry drinkable liquid back out of the bag once fully cured.
